The room worked well for wheelchair access and was clean, and moving us to the ground floor after the first room was appreciated. The hotel is handy for the Tower and promenade, and the staff were kind, especially Greg and the bar team, who helped us find our way around and told us what entertainment was on. Drinks were priced like a normal bar. Breakfast had lots of cereal, though everything else seemed incredibly greasy. The meals had a decent range at first, and the third night’s dinner was lovely, with great desserts every night and some of the best cheesecake I’ve had. But after several guests, including the three of us, had severe vomiting and stomach pain after the burger meal on night two, I didn’t feel comfortable eating the meals included in the Tates Travel Price. On arrival, we also had to leave our luggage on the dance floor for three hours while they sorted out our room. Facilities were basic, as the hotel was for seniors.

We’ve stayed twice, and my friend and her husband have been three times. The staff have always been so accommodating. My friend is in the early stages of dementia and finds change difficult, so it’s been a big help that they give us the same ground-floor disabled room each time, which makes it easy for her to get around. Everyone has been great, from reception and the dining room to the bar, and the entertainment has been good every visit. She’s going again with her husband in August, and we’ve booked another stay for December. We plan to book for the following year while we’re there too. We’ve all enjoyed ourselves every time. The staff were polite and really helpful, and breakfast was very good. We’d found a cheap B&B deal for a twin room, so the room being small was fine, and it served its purpose. It was clean, too. The TV had no signal, though, and getting hot water was hit and miss. For the price, we got what we paid for.

The food was excellent and the dining room staff were great. We had a twin room for a long weekend, and the room and bed linen were clean. The carpets throughout the hotel were in a really poor state, though, and looked as if they hadn’t been vacuumed in months. There was also a small clanking lift, with a door banging outside our room. There’s no excuse for carpets being that worn and dirty.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The food was so bad I wouldn’t give it to my dog, and the rooms were dirty, with poor showers and no clean bed linen. The bedrooms felt smaller than prison cells. The lift was like Doctor Who’s Tardis, and I got stuck in it for half an hour before I had to phone the hotel for help. Do yourselves a favour and read this before booking. Bring your simmer frame, and expect a grab a granny night every night. David, Belfast 👍
