The Residence

The host was friendly, arranged off-street parking for both our cars, and the bar was cheap. The bedding was very clean and the bed comfortable, which is all you need in Blackpool when you’re out all day. It did smell a bit and could use some TLC, but for a cheap B&B, what do you expect?

It was very cold in the room, and broken windows had wood covering them. The hotel smelled dirty, and wallpaper was coming away from damp, dirty walls. The hot taps on the sinks didn’t work, and the TV wasn’t as described and was in an unsafe place. The bar had closed before 9 pm. I wouldn’t recommend staying here with a family.

There was no electricity on our first day, and being told “it should get sorted, don't worry” didn’t put us at ease. The place was dirty and smelled so bad that we and other guests came and went holding our noses. At 1.30am, I woke to a strange man screaming in pain with every step as he went downstairs to get “a cup of tea”. In the morning, I was told he lived there full time. The staff were pleasant enough to chat with in passing, but weren’t much help otherwise. It just wasn’t a nice place to stay.

The smell of wet, stinking dogs put me off so much I was glad there was no breakfast. The place was really dirty, and wallpaper was peeling and mouldy in the kids’ bedroom. There was no door. I had to wipe my feet on the way out. It wasn’t worth £10pn, let alone nearly £100. Check it out before paying, because you won’t get your money back. It should be closed down. I felt like I was in a squat.
