Our two kids loved exploring the area, and our dog Chase was just as welcome as we were, which made this feel like home. The Forge was spacious, cosy and beautifully maintained, with comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. The hosts were friendly and responsive, making everything smooth from start to finish. We had a wonderful, peaceful family break in Cornwall and couldn’t have asked for better.

Such a shame. We reported on arrival, as the guest manual asked, that a lamp wasn’t working. After a lovely family getaway, we came home to a £70 charge for breaking that same lamp, even though it was already broken when we arrived. It was valued at £35, but the owners wanted a matching pair, so they got two and charged us for both. We were honest and did nothing wrong, and this has left us really disappointed. We won’t visit again. Take time-stamped photos of everything when you arrive so you don’t get treated this way. I’d give zero stars if I could.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️Four days after our long weekend, I found a £70 charge for a lamp we hadn't broken. My family and I had noticed one bedside lamp wasn't working as soon as I took my case into the bedroom. I mentioned it in the log book, as the welcome file asked, then thought that was that. The owner says she checked all the electrics and it worked before our arrival, but I know it didn't. There were marks in the carpet showing the bed and bedside drawers had been shifted about an inch, so maybe the lamp fell when the cleaner moved them. I can't say what happened, only that we didn't break it. We told the owner it was broken when we arrived and suggested a previous guest or the cleaner may have been responsible, but she insisted it was working. We book cottages about four times a year and have never been treated this way. Sykes were useless when we tried to sort it out. If you arrive and find damage, ring the owners straight away and take photos with timestamps as evidence. ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
