The Castle Inn

The fish and chips were atrocious. The menu promised cider-battered haddock, thick-cut chips and crushed minted peas. Instead, there was a tiny half-inch-thick fillet with about an inch of batter on each side, like a corn dog. The chips were frozen oven-chip style, and the minted peas were completely dry, as if they hadn't been finished. The lemon was the best part. Shocking cooking, cheap ingredients and a misleading menu. Shame. Do better. It was very quiet when I popped in for lunch. The greeting was friendly, the service was good, and they told me about the specials, but the food let the whole thing down.

The staff really stood out: they were pleasant, helpful and welcoming, and made our stay a pleasure. We spent three nights here and had a very pleasant time. It's a friendly pub with a brilliant atmosphere. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with brilliant views. The food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner. Thank you all.

We arrived just before last orders and were lucky to get a drink and a seat outside in the lovely pub garden. The Castle also serves breakfast, which we'll try next time. We'll definitely come back.

It was a lovely place to spend an evening, and my burger was delicious. A big thanks to Charmaine and Lottie for looking after us so well when I went for a drink and a meal with a friend last night. They were incredibly attentive and friendly despite being completely stretched, with the place frantically busy and one chef down. They still made sure our food came on time. Thanks, ladies.
