The Lawn Hotel

The room seemed okay at first, just small and grubby, but the rest of the stay was awful. There were no signs showing where the rooms were, and a woman in slippers and a dressing gown told me ours was on the top floor. I couldn't find the kettle until I looked in the desk cupboard, and there wasn't a teaspoon. The toilet blocked the first time I used it. The shower sprayed water sideways, had no temperature control, and was scalding. I slipped on the wet floor getting out and ended up in A and E with concussion. Getting to the room was a mess too. After parking, unloading my things and going into the hotel, I found a sign telling me to check in at the next door building. The receptionist there had about as much enthusiasm as a wooden plank. I was given the key to room 18, then had to walk all the way back to the Lawn hotel, where there was a smell like a fishmonger's. Avoid this dump. I wouldn't let my dog stay here.

Avoid this place and book at your own risk. It's very dirty, with a filthy carpet and stained bedding. The mattress was really uncomfortable, the bathroom shower didn't work, and the toilet seat was brown. There were mites and bedbugs in the bed. Do environmental officers operate in this area?

I woke in the middle of the night with intense itching, even though the room had looked clean and I had checked the linens before bed. In the morning, I found several bed bugs crawling both under and on top of the sheets. I showed reception the bugs, photos and red marks all over my body. They offered to waive the room charge and call pest control, but I doubt that will solve it given the 30 years old mattress and beds, and carpeted floors that can't be cleaned daily. This hotel needs pest control. Please avoid it unless you want to bring unwanted guests home.

The room was absolutely boiling when I stayed in summer. It absorbed the heat during the day, and with so little airflow it stayed hot all night. I had to sleep naked without sheets. Breakfast was awful too. I asked for poached eggs and was told no, then my breakfast was slammed down in front of me. The woman working there seemed like she didn't even want to be there.
