Little Boutique Club

We were there on a Saturday and found a lovely antiques market on the street. The room is nicely decorated and right in the town centre, just minutes from lots of restaurants and shops. It’s a perfect base for exploring without needing a car.

The flat is clean, warm and well furnished, and it’s one of the best holiday lets we’ve rented in years. It’s a lovely, spacious place for two, right in the town centre, with nice decor, great water pressure, a perfect mattress for us and an amazing bath. Despite the problems we had, we’d book again. Once you know about the issues and plan ahead, it’s an excellent base for visiting the area. A few things to bear in mind, especially if you’re staying in the Book Club. The central location means some night noise, and the flat’s windows face the courtyard in front of the Arts centre. People gather on the benches there into the early hours, then the roadside bins are collected. Bring earplugs. The oven is strange, and there’s no manual for it or the other appliances, or a guide to the property. There’s no microwave, dishwasher, spare bin bags or cooking supplies, so plan for that. There are good restaurants nearby. Make sure you have the entry details at least 48 hours before arrival. We’d lost the email with the access code and couldn’t reach the owner for several hours on the phone number provided. Email replies take around 10-24 hours. There’s no emergency contact if you get stuck, despite what the booking confirmation says. The bookshop owner downstairs told us other guests regularly have trouble getting in. It seems the flat’s owner lives in the US, and a nearby relative isn’t reliable. The bookshop can’t let you in either, whatever the owner may tell you. We had a nightmare with access, so get everything sorted in advance.

The flat is right in the centre of Bridport, with shops, pubs, restaurants and cinema screens just steps away. It’s beautifully furnished and has all mod cons, including a fab walk-in shower and a bath in the bedroom in the Book Shop room. The bathroom and kitchen/living room have varnished floorboards, while the bathroom also has a tiled floor, so it was a bit cold underfoot in January. The heating works really well and is easy to control, though I’d bring slippers. My only other quibble is that the bathroom window isn’t frosted. With the toilet right beside it and only a net curtain, it can feel a bit exposed. Overall, highly recommended.
