Delta Hotels by Marriott Bristol City Centre

For a central Bristol hotel, the price was very reasonable. I had a spacious, rather nice room, and it stayed fairly quiet despite the location. The hotel has plenty of facilities, including a gym and several conference rooms. Staff were extremely friendly and looked after all our needs. Breakfast was good too, and the location put landmarks, public transport, and more just steps away. I had a wonderful stay.

This is about the Bristol Hi-fi show held here. It's handy for public transport, with a carpark nextdoor too. The smaller rooms worked reasonably well as listening rooms, though they bring the usual acoustic challenges. I only noticed the restaurant too late to try it. There was a bar, with pints at nearly £8, plus simple rolls and hotdogs. The queue outside could have been organised better from the start.

The issue with my first visit was the room TV wouldn't turn on. I called housekeeping at around 5pm but got no answer. Reception did pick up and said they'd send someone, but nothing had been fixed by checkout the next morning. When I mentioned it after being asked about my stay, there was no apology or offer of compensation. I thought that was poor, especially as I've been a Convoy member across all its houses for well over 15 years. Three stars is generous 😡 The hotel itself is really nice and well placed for shopping and sights in central Bristol. The amenities seemed good, and breakfast was excellent, though I missed having a cook-to-order omelette bar.

I had a decent stay overall. My room was spacious, the shower was great, and I could make tea before checking out. The hotel is a couple of minutes' walk from the main shopping district and about 15 minutes on foot from Bristol Temple Meads station. The room soundproofing was a problem. A family with young children in the adjacent rooms talked loudly in the corridor and went between rooms from about 10:15 to 11pm. Their doors were loud each time they shut, and I couldn't get to sleep easily before an early Sunday trip home. The lifts were another issue. On Saturday night only one seemed to be working, so I waited a while. My room was high up and the stairs weren't an option. There was another wait at checkout in the morning, and by the time the lift got to the terrace floor it was quite full. I understand mornings are busier because of breakfast, but more frequent lifts would have helped.
