Towed Town Camping

The manager was really understanding and let us stay past 11am while we dealt with a problem. Our car had been broken into overnight, which was upsetting, though we were told it hadn’t happened in the six years they’d been open, so I wouldn’t let that put you off. The caravans indoors are a quirky idea and made for a lovely stay, especially for the price. Even in the heat it wasn’t too warm, and the facilities were very clean. 10/10.

For a last-minute booking, it cost less than half the price of any hotel, and I’d definitely recommend it for one night. I slept well, and a taxi got me into the city centre quickly. The caravan was cosy and fairly clean, and the bathroom was clean too, though there was no toilet roll. It’s an interesting place. I arrived quite late and it was hard to spot in the dark, but getting in was easy because all the details had been sent by email and text.

I couldn’t stay there again, even if someone paid me. We booked for one night before catching a train the next day, but after two hours trying not to feel sick at the state of the place, we left and paid for different accommodation. The idea is cute, but the execution was awful. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who cares about clean sheets or a room that doesn’t stink. There are places around the same price with better hygiene. Even a hostel would be better. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. Zero stars if I could. There were long, curly black hairs in my “clean” bed, though neither of us has black hair. The caravan was in poor shape, with stained walls and fake wallpaper peeling off and held in place with tape. The “clean” shower and toilet cubicle was still wet with shower water. The water jug was half empty from whoever had stayed before and hadn’t been refilled. The honesty bar had nothing stocked except half-empty bottles of booze at room temperature. The bar menu had been vandalised and never replaced. Nobody seems to care about this place. It’s in awful condition, and the owners should be ashamed.

I booked and paid last month, with nothing on the booking sites to indicate the place no longer existed. After travelling a long way, I found a building site where it had been demolished. It’s been taking bookings on sites such as Booking.com, and I was left out of pocket.
