Villiers Hotel

The staff know a lot about coeliac needs and made me feel comfortable. The food was amazing, and the hotel has a lovely history. It’s in a great spot, with the cute high street right on the doorstep and Stowe and Silverstone a short drive away. I heard about the Bletchley Park package, so we’ll be back for that.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, and the food is to a high standard. The hosts are lovely and always try to make sure we’re comfortable and happy. Being right in the centre of Buckingham also means easy access to shops, the university and various landmarks. They make you feel special.

The staff were mostly great, and the location and breakfast were good. But our dog friendly room was in poor shape, despite costing the same as other rooms plus a £20 cleaning charge. The two ground floor rooms next to ours seemed to be dog friendly too, with their windows wide open onto the courtyard, presumably to deal with the smell. Our carpet was stained, the paint around the plain MDF wardrobe door handles was scratched, and the smell lingered all night. I pointed it all out when reception asked how things were. They scribbled something down, then added the £20 cleaning charge to my credit card bill.

Maisie at reception was incredibly helpful when we needed it most, sorting out a booking mix-up that was largely my fault. She pulled out all the stops, clearly cares about her work, and sets a very high standard. The duty manager also went the extra mile for us. Our room was large, plush and very comfortable, and the food was excellent. The staff were a pleasure to deal with. Many thanks to Maisie and the manager. I’ll definitely recommend this place.
