Widemouth Manor Hotel

Had the carvery last Sunday, and the food was dry and only lukewarm. When a lad brought more roast potatoes, some were stuck to the tray. He tried to prise them off with his nails, then threw the tray on the floor when they wouldn't shift. Not going again.

The manager apologised, said it was a poor cut of beef, and gave us 20% off. But if they already knew about the meat, and earlier reviews mention the same problem, something needs to change with the food and how it's cooked. Otherwise I'd look elsewhere. Such a shame, especially on my mum's 90th birthday. We visited Widemouth Manor on a Sunday and chose the carvery. The beef had fat running through it and was so tough we struggled to cut it even with steak knives. It was also undercooked. The cauliflower in the cauliflower cheese and the roast potatoes were undercooked too. We complained that the meal was a real disappointment, and it put a damper on the birthday celebration. The staff were polite, and the views were beautiful as ever, but that doesn't help when you can't eat the food.

I've stayed here for work a few times, back when it had the old owners, and it was good then. With the new chef and menu, it's amazing. The fish cakes are packed with meat, and the sauce is delicious. The ribs are great too. Best restaurant around.

We were on holiday and not from the area, but the team made our gathering feel easy. There were 30 of us, including eight young children, and they handled our dietary restrictions professionally. We had a separate area so we could all be together. The staff were excellent, especially the manager on duty. They let us celebrate without hovering, while still giving great service. I was so happy with how they handled my 60th. It's a beautiful place for an occasion, and I'd highly recommend it.
