Grove Barn Bed and Breakfast

Steph made us feel at home during our six nights at the Grove Barn B & B. She was warm and welcoming, and even brought me early coffee on several mornings while I worked at a table in the breakfast room. The breakfasts were plentiful, fresh and delicious. She also suggested restaurants and made a dinner reservation for us. We enjoyed the pretty flowers, the lovely countryside and our exceptionally clean room. We found it hard to leave, and Steph gave us a truly memorable stay. We’ll never forget her or the B & B!

There was plenty to choose from at breakfast, and the bed was really comfortable with loads of storage in the room. The host was excellent, and the wi fi worked very well. Highly recommend.

I’m leaving one star only because the review system wouldn’t let me post without selecting one. We had paid for the accommodation and breakfasts seven months ahead. A few days before we were due to arrive, my husband died suddenly. My friend called the owners on the day he died to explain, and came away thinking it would be fine to move the holiday to another date. When she called again a few weeks later to rearrange, she was told we would have to pay for the booking again because we were outside the cancellation window. The same was said when I called the owner myself. She also said she was running a business, not a charity. I asked for written confirmation and an invoice for what I had already paid. Within minutes of that call, her husband rang me and shouted, saying I had upset his wife. I know it may have been hard to sell the room again at short notice, but the breakfast had been paid for on top of the room, and they didn’t refund that either. It felt like they were making money from what had happened. I waited for the email and invoice, then had to send a reminder. They only arrived several days later. After such a recent bereavement, I expected a business owner to show some respect, compassion and empathy. The owners have no compassion policy and showed no empathy at all. I’ve since found that many businesses waive cancellation rules when someone dies suddenly before check-in.

Rural Norfolk was just what we expected, fantastic if a rural stay is what you’re after. Our room was fabulous and spotless, and Steph made us feel very welcome. Breakfast had a great selection, booked the evening before. This is in my top three B&Bs in the country. You won’t be disappointed.
