We’ve had two really nice meals here lately. It’s cosy, with lovely open fires, and our dog was made welcome with a water bowl. The steak was delicious, though a little chewy, and the mushroom ketchup and pickled onion rings were amazing. On our second visit I had cod loin and my husband had ham, both delicious. Save room for dessert, they’re gorgeous.

Spectacular place, with terrific bar staff who seem to enjoy being there. The food was just as charming as the chef, and the care with details like the mushroom ketchup was next level. They use local and home-grown produce too. The only thing I’d have changed was having a fan in the room during this hot spell.

We stayed one night with my partner, and the room was lovely. The food was some of the best I’ve had in ages. It’s impressive that a pub in a small village gets it so right when plenty of others don’t. The hotel was a handy base for our walk to Thors cave, which took 3-4 hours there and back, including stops. I’d recommend staying here while exploring the peak district.

We spent a weekend in one of the rooms and really enjoyed the home-cooked food. Breakfast was a treat, especially the home-cured bacon. It’s a traditional village pub with a warm welcome, cosy decor, open fires and a quirky feel. Highly recommended.

The pub felt welcoming, cosy and friendly, and everyone around us seemed relaxed and happy. My husband surprised me with a Valentine’s Day dinner here, our first visit. There was a good choice on the menus for different tastes, with fresh ingredients and lovely presentation. They even gave us a truffle on the house.
