Breakfast was amazing, and the chef really knows how to cook. I had the best poached egg ever, almost as good as mine! The service was great, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, with a great bathroom and a very comfy bed. It was surprisingly quiet despite being so close to Carlisle. It’s clearly an old property with beautiful original features, and the owners are doing their best to update it. Stick with them!

It’s a 19th century building that’s seen better days, so this hotel is what it is. Still, the room was clean, breakfast was very nice and the staff were friendly. If we’re in the area again, we’d definitely book here. Ignore the bad reviews.

The room was filthy. The table was still sticky from whatever had been on it before, and the bathroom was dirty and sub-standard. The walls are thin, so noise from the rooms next door came through clearly. The bed was so soft I sank right through to the base. I arrived at 8:30pm and was “greeted” by someone who didn’t speak to me, just grunted and handed over a key. I had to ask how to find my room. This place should be closed!

Handy spot just outside Carlisle, on the A6, with its own off-road car park. The rooms were fine for a night and had en-suite bathrooms. Dogs are welcome for £15 per dog per night, and there’s a small fenced garden out back where they can run around.

The room use is another concern: it seemed the hotel was also being used for sex work, with rooms apparently occupied at all hours according to when clients booked. I stayed several nights, and large rats scratching around in the walls kept me awake. On one occasion, one got into my room. It’s hard to sleep after that. There was also an overwhelming smell as soon as I walked in, like strong body odour mixed with stale curry being cooked at the bar, though it wasn’t even served to guests. Grim. I’ve had better stays in budget hostels for a fraction of the price. People saying to ignore the bad reviews must be bots or have some kind of stake in this place. It’s one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. Save yourself the money, stress and sleepless nights, and stay well clear.
