Ashbank Hotel

Carradale is quite a place, go and see for yourself, though it’s closing soon, so be quick! We stayed for three nights last week and managed to add an extra night. John and Sharon are such lovely people, nothing was too much trouble. We didn’t meet the behind-the-scenes folks, but they must be great too to keep everything running so smoothly. The location is great, and the other hotels and B&Bs offering meals seem to work together as a big, friendly group to make visitors’ stays memorable. Our room was bright, light and comfortable, with everything we needed, plus a huge bath and loads of hot water. The art was interesting, too.

They were lovely people, and it was a wonderful place to stop. After a day walking the Kintyre Way, we came by for a drink, even though they were closed and weren’t due to open for another 15 minutes. They kindly let us in for a KIntyre Gin G&T and a chat to round off the day.

There’s a good range of drinks, from beer and wine to whisky, and plenty of games and cards to pass the time. We wandered in for a couple of drinks while staying nearby and found it small but welcoming. The staff were great, and the dog on site was friendly. There are a couple of rooms, one with a screen for showing sport or other things. I’d go back when I’m in the area.

The continental breakfast was great, and the pub had a good atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable and the hotelier family friendly. There aren’t evening meals, but there’s a great restaurant 1.5 miles away. It’s a beautiful little hamlet, with a lovely bay just five minutes away.
