The Oakland

The room was spacious, clean and had good facilities, and the location suited what we needed. The nightlife was good and quietened down early enough for a decent night's sleep, in theory. With the heatwave, though, it was impossible to sleep. The desk fan did what it could, but air conditioning would have been ideal. Breakfast was held up because of something outside the hotel's control, and a replacement was on its way. We had to leave before it arrived because of other commitments, but the staff were friendly and attentive. I'd stay again, hopefully when it's cooler.

We'd booked at the last minute after our original holiday was cancelled, then had to rebook, and this hotel was conveniently close to the airport. Until checkout, we were impressed with the hotel and service and had no complaints. After we left, I got a call accusing us of taking a room throw and asking us to return it. I was so shocked that I handed the phone to my husband. We were at the airport with our two children, and stealing something is not something we would ever do. Being accused made us feel awful. After that, I can't recommend the place.

We were having a laugh after putting a few extra straws in our drinks, and they took our drinks away and forcibly removed us from the building. We'd already spent a lot of money there, and the whole thing was embarrassing. If you're under 50, don't bother, apparently you're not allowed to enjoy yourselves.

We stayed on Saturday 12th July. The location was great, the staff were friendly, and our room was spotless with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely and served by a waitress. Good value, and we'll definitely book again.
