The Portcullis Hotel

The bathroom was the big letdown, with loads of gunk under the sink hole and dirt on the walls and ceiling. The rooms looked nice at first, the bed was comfy, and there was tea and coffee. Drinks at the bar were horrendously priced: £10.90 for a single vodka and coke and a single rum and coke. One staff member was friendly and kind, though he sat with us while we were trying to unwind together after a long day of driving. We didn’t mind too much. I’d come back, just not for £72 a night.

I stayed a little while ago and loved it. The room was spotless, the atmosphere was second to none, and I got VIP-like treatment. The nightlife was electric, with music to suit all tastes. I’d definitely recommend it to friends and family.

We didn’t realize this was a pub and nightclub, so if you’re staying over a weekend, bring a good speaker! The room was very dusty and the cleanliness fell short of what we expected. Bedding and towels were great, but that was about it. The en-suite smelled unpleasant, like stale water, and the bin still had rubbish from the previous guest or cleaner. After wiping a thick layer of dust off the remote, we found it didn’t work because the batteries were corroded. So, no TV.

The room was clean, the bed was lovely, and it’s a nice old-style place. There was no toilet paper, cups, or teaspoon for stirring, and only two little milks. I like at least four cups of tea in the morning. I’d stay again, maybe for two or three days next time. We couldn’t eat where they serve meals because it was fully booked, so it must be good.
