The afternoon tea at Matfen hall was lovely, and the hotel staff made us feel so welcome. They even arranged cars to take us between the stables and the hall. We stayed in the Clocktower Lodge with eight people across its four bedrooms, and there was plenty of room. Everything we needed was there, along with a few unexpected extras in the welcome pack. A beautiful place that went beyond what we expected. The accommodation and service were fantastic.

The cottage is lovely and the location is beautiful, but it could have been better maintained. We arrived for our Christmas stay to find one bathroom freezing, the gas fire not working, and cobwebs on the beams. Nothing was put right while we were there, and the complaint I made afterwards was ignored. Frustrating.

Absolutely gorgeous place for a long weekend with a close group of friends while we were at Hexham races. Faultless!

I only saw the place from the outside, but it looked beautiful and seemed really well cared for.
