The pie tasted very good, and the location and pub are nice, but £23 for a pie with a small portion of kale felt poor value. I didn’t realise I was meant to add sides to make it a proper main meal portion. Service was slow, and the bar staff were talking loudly about their travel escapades instead of paying attention to customers. Before we’d even eaten, the table beside us was disappointed with something on the menu. They were told the butcher had changed the produce and it was out of their control, which wasn’t a great start. I eat out two or three times a week at restaurants around the UK and abroad while travelling for work, and this meal was definitely near the bottom for value. I’m happy to pay a premium when the quality, creativity and service are there, which I expected but didn’t get. This place could be great, but it’s missing the mark. From the reviews, I’m not seeing anyone reading and responding to customers, which gives the impression that not much attention is being paid to the establishment.

We were staying at Greyhound Barn, just a two minute walk away, and stopped in at this wonderful village pub. The young staff were friendly, attentive and efficient, and there were great local beers on tap. The Sunday roast was one of the best I’ve had, with fresh bowls of beetroot, which I’d never seen served that way, plus delicious roasted carrots and cauliflower cheese. Highly recommended, and thank you.

Tuesday dinner at the Village Pub turned into such an enjoyable evening. The food was great and the atmosphere lovely, but the team really stood out. Every staff member we met was welcoming, friendly and sociable. Thank you for a lovely night, and for the brownie dessert for my husband’s birthday. It was lovely meeting such a fantastic team.

A handy base for exploring the Cotswolds, about six minutes from Bibury and nine from Cirencester. It’s more budget friendly than the sister hotel across the road, but the quality wasn’t compromised. The room was cosy with a Vispring bed, just like the Pig, and breakfast was included. Highly recommend.

We drove two hours because this is our favourite place to eat in all of England. We love the village, the food and especially the sticky toffee pudding. Definitely recommend it, even if visiting takes you out of your way.
