We had another fabulous weekend with friends at the Assheton Arms. The staff, including Chris & the team, were absolutely charming and couldn’t do enough to help. Service was second to none, the rooms were lovely and comfortable, and the food was great. We’ll definitely return!

Our mini cottage had a shared garden, a wet room, and a coffee machine. It was immaculate, bright, warm and nicely furnished. I’d asked for a ground floor room because of my elderly dog, and that’s what we got. It was a cold, frosty day in Downham, but inside the Ashton Arms felt warm and welcoming as soon as we came through the door. The staff had friendly smiles, and both dinner and breakfast were brilliant, with plenty of choice. The staff were professional, informative and friendly throughout. A special mention for the Maitre’d and the young lad with curly hair behind the bar. Sorry, I didn’t catch their names. They were both lovely and professional, and nothing was too much trouble.

I can’t comment on the rooms since we weren’t staying. We came with friends for Sunday dinner, and the pub was lovely with great food. The roast potatoes could’ve been crispier, but everything else was spot on and the roast was excellent. Well worth visiting, and I’d happily go again.

The fish in my small fish and chips was delicious, and the batter was lovely and light. We really enjoyed the meal and the setting. It was our first visit, and what a beautiful pub in a lovely area. The weather was bad, but inside there was a great atmosphere, and the food and service were excellent. Hopefully we’ll return.

We had a great Sunday lunch with friends and caught up after the festive break. There’s an excellent choice of food and drinks, plenty of seating, and the staff were friendly and attentive. We’d had a short walk around the paths and fields near the car park beforehand. Parking gets very busy, so I’d recommend booking well ahead. Definitely worth a visit.
