After taking the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead and the train to Conwy, we stayed one night here. Our room was 32. We left our bags and walked to Conwy castle before it closed at 4 pm, then had our dinner reservation at the hotel restaurant at 5 pm. The hotel is right by the train platform, yet still feels quiet inside. The renovation and upkeep are close to perfect, with historic charm throughout. Our bed was comfortable and the shower was excellent. We knew there was no elevator, and on the 3rd floor that meant I had to make several trips. Dinner was excellent, from the king prawn cocktail to the slow roasted braised beef and spiced ginger cake. The complimentary breakfast the next morning was just as good. Staff were top notch, rooms exceptionally comfortable, and the food plentiful and delicious. I'd definitely come back. If I could, I'd live here, and I highly recommend the experience if you can.

The location worked really well for us, with the castle and other downtown sights an easy walk away. We stayed three nights in the Superior Balcony King Room in the Y Capel at the Erskine Arms. It was clean and comfortable, and housekeeping was thorough. We appreciated having parking in the Y Capel, even though the spaces were tight, and the shared room with tea, snacks, tables, and chairs was a nice place to unwind. We ate dinner there once and had breakfast each morning. The food was delicious, and the servers were friendly and attentive throughout. We could occasionally hear faint sounds from other rooms, but it didn’t bother us. We loved our stay and would happily return to the Erskine Arms. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Conwy.

The old phone and cigarette machine were such cool touches. Inside and outside both looked lovely when we went back a few days after our first attempt to visit. We didn’t try the food, but there was a pretty good beer selection, though the drinks were very expensive. I suppose that comes with it being so upmarket. The first time we tried to go, it was marked closed to anyone who wasn’t staying at the pub.

The roast beef brisket was the best roast dinner we’ve had out, even after travelling all over the UK. It’s our number one. We also tried the halloumi and pork bites to start, and both had amazing flavour combinations. The pub is beautiful, the staff were pleasant, and we’d definitely come back.

We chose this place after seeing the good reviews, and we eat out often. I’ve never felt compelled to leave a bad review before, but this meal was a real letdown. The burgers were so greasy that I had to blot the bun with a napkin, and the buns were soggy and unpleasant. The children’s meals weren’t any better value at £8.50: the pizza was tiny and seemed like the sort of frozen one you can buy at Aldi for under £1, while the spaghetti bolognese was completely bland. I wouldn’t serve food like that at home, never mind expect it in a restaurant. The manager offered 25% off the kids’ meals, and I appreciated that, but it didn’t make up for the poor quality overall.
