At £150 a night for an economy room, this was under par for the price. The service was poor. We’d booked an evening meal for almost 30 people, but one server was left to cover the whole restaurant. She did her best, so this is no reflection on her; management needs to sort it out. Food was missing from some plates, and some people finished eating before others’ meals arrived. Breakfast wasn’t too bad, though there was no black pudding on either of the two days we were there. The water in the rooms kept switching between hot and cold, according to all our friends in the other rooms too. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear everything, and the doors are the same. With gaps underneath, are they even fire doors? Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this place.

I booked a room for August, then found I couldn’t make the trip. I canceled two months ago and was told they’d take care of it, but they charged me anyway. When I called, they said they had no record of my cancellation. How convenient. It seems they only care about the money. What does that say about them? I strongly don’t recommend this place.

It’s handy if you’re going to a wedding at nearby Danby Castle, and the staff were very nice. I can recommend the place as long as you keep in mind it’s really a pub with rooms, with the hotel side coming second. Breakfast is basic, and the promised fruit showed up on just two of our four mornings, though the cooked items were excellent. There are rules, including a minimum £100 fee for any breakages. We got back at 10.35 to find the place almost completely dark and had trouble getting in.

We spent a weekend away with the kids and stayed in the pods. They’re named after birds and were much more spacious than I expected. What an experience, they’re absolutely amazing. Breakfast was brilliant too, and we all got such a full plate. We didn’t get the chance to eat lunch or dinner there, but we’d definitely do it again. Thank you all for making it a memory. xx

We had a perfect little stay for a wedding nearby at Danby Castle. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, and the brilliant service made us feel relaxed and welcome. We’d love to stay again and would highly recommend it for an event or a weekend away.
