The one staff member we met was polite and friendly. That's about the only good thing I can say. The door out sticks a bit, but getting it open is apparently character building. The place itself is a hovel. The carpets were threadbare, curtains were as thin as sheets, and the bedding had gone grey with age. There were cigarette burns all over. The shower door wouldn't shut properly, so water covered the bathroom floor and ran through what looked like accidental tears in the lino. The bedroom window handle was broken off. The only appliance with a safety test sticker was the TV, so I'd avoid using the extension lead and the lamp plugged into it. Even if they paid me £45 to stay, I don't think it'd be enough. They do save you a bit of time making tea, though: instead of individually wrapped teabags, they put two straight from the box into the cup. Two healthy adults with decent immune systems got through our stay. Anyone more vulnerable might want a hazmat suit.

We didn't last an hour before leaving and booking another hotel that day. The room smelled strongly of cigarettes, felt unsafe, and was in very poor shape. There was no bathroom door, and the sheets and duvet looked old. The website photos weren't accurate. The staff member was friendly, but couldn't refund us because he said he'd "lost customers." I wouldn't recommend staying here. Avoid.

Avoid this place. It smelled awful, of cigarettes and damp, and the rooms were in poor condition. The bathroom had no door and there was mould all over the shower. The bed was really uncomfortable, and the sink was oddly placed in the bedroom. I'm from Derby, and this part of town doesn't feel safe, especially for women. When I arrived, police were at the hotel because some guests were arguing. Please avoid.

I was already worried on the way over after reading the reviews, and nearly made a last minute booking somewhere else. I gave two stars because there seemed to have been a slight improvement: my sheets were clean, the room was mostly clean, and there were no bugs or anything that made me unable to stay. That's where the positives stop. The room needs refurbishing. The paint and flooring were in bad shape, and the old furniture was falling apart. Drinks wrappers were stuck to the wall, along with other things that probably shouldn't have been there. The kettle was horrible. It was half full when I arrived, and emptying it revealed what the photo showed. The lock was shabby enough that you could see through it. Putting something in front of the door helped. The corridors had a strange smell I couldn't identify, though it didn't reach my room. There was no toilet or shower in the room. The toilet was down the corridor, without soap or toilet paper. Those were left in the room for guests to take along. I couldn't figure out where the shower was, and after seeing the general shabbiness, decided not to look for it. It cost £35 and was near the city, though in a sketchier area. You get what you pay for, but don't expect a clean or safe room. I wouldn't recommend going alone, especially for a woman. Nothing happened to me, but I felt uneasy the whole time.

We refused to stay because the room we were given looked nothing like the website photos. There wasn't a bathroom door, just a curtain, and the grime around the shower tray was so bad I wouldn't even shower my dogs in there. The building was old, dirty and run down, and it was advertised inaccurately. There was no breakfast, though they said we could cook our own. No thanks. I wish I could give it no stars. No wonder it's so cheap.
