The manager was so friendly and helpful, and knew the area and nearby amenities well. We had a clean room with two sets of matching bunk beds, a sink, and dog-friendly arrangements. The toilets and bathrooms were clean and close by. There were kitchen facilities if we needed them, breakfast could be ordered, and two big lounges had board games to use. I'd never stayed in a hostel before, but I'd happily come back. The views were lovely too, and I'd recommend it.

The location is beautiful, with a great outdoor BBQ spot, and the place itself is okay. But we spent the trip worrying about the checkout cleaning. We were expected to clean the whole property and empty our own bins, even though we'd paid quite a lot to rent the entire place. Some bedding was missing, so we had to bring in our own, and we accidentally left a bedsheet behind. The bunks felt cramped and low, and I hurt myself climbing in and out. Some bedrooms had no windows and felt suffocating. There was no toilet paper either, so bring your own if you go.

Lou made us feel really welcome and was friendly and accommodating throughout. The building has character, with its exposed beams, and the setting is fantastic. We found it very comfortable. The kitchen was closed, so there was no dinner or breakfast available, but there are places to eat fairly nearby. You can make hot and cold drinks there.

We had a very happy stay and would recommend it to anyone wanting a taste of the Welsh countryside. It's around a 10-15 minute drive from Porthmadog harbour. Up in the hills of Golan, near Porthmadog, Wales, the hostel sits in a peaceful green landscape with meadows, streams, lakes, sheep and cows. Parking is plentiful. Inside, it can sleep up to 60 people, with ensuite and shared bathrooms, a canteen beside a large professional kitchen, plus an upstairs games room and spacious lounge. There's also a laundry room and drying room. Outside, there's a fire pit and a circular gathering area.

Our rooms were warm and the beds comfortable enough, and everything was set up for our late arrival with a group of 30. We had instructions for getting in after the final check-in, and the rooms were ready with sheets. It was easy to find the kitchen, washrooms and other spaces. Breakfast was arranged early so we could leave by 7am, and the food was good, with vegetarian options. Staff were friendly and helpful with the arrangements for our stay. The price was good, booking was easy, and I'd definitely recommend it.
