Doncaster International Hotel

The food was delicious each day, at both breakfast and dinner, and every member of staff served us with a smile. Luke was training and was especially nice, so we left him a tip. We stayed for a week and had a fantastic time. The room setup was smart, everything worked properly, and there was a generously sized HD flat screen TV in every room. The air conditioning worked well and, even in this weather, was quiet enough to sleep with. Couldn’t have asked for a better room. We’ll definitely be back soon.

On our latest visit, the rooms hadn’t been checked, so we had to go to reception ourselves for clean towels and toilet roll. I’m not expecting the Hilton or Ritz Hotel, but the hotel should provide what it advertises. The standards have been slipping for months, even with the new management. You can pay £10 for a room extension, but it has to be arranged before the 10am checkout, and the boards in the rooms haven’t been updated. I’ve yet to see the displayed menu in real life. In the evenings, there are usually just a few basic dishes on a chalkboard for £8.95, if a chef is available. Breakfast smells lovely, though I always eat out, so I can’t comment on it.

The room was clean and spacious, with a very comfortable super king size bed and lovely crisp cotton sheets. Staff were really helpful, and the fish and chips were good. Food is served until about 9. Parking felt a bit tight. It’s a budget hotel in a retail and commercial area, close to the racecourse. Recommended.

We chose it for work because the location suited us, and we weren’t paying for the stay, so the TV issue didn’t bother us much. The television didn’t work and the channel reception was poor. There was a sign at reception saying it was going to be fixed, but I don’t know whether that sign is always there. Vegetarian menu options were limited, although the food available was nice. The mushroom soup was the best ever!
