My family and I stayed here in March 2025. We'd booked and paid for the rooms through booking.com in August 2024, but when we called the week before our stay, we were told they'd “lost all their booking.com bookings” and that we had to book and pay again. We did, and have since tried without success to get back the roughly £100 we're owed, contacting booking.com, the hotel, and our credit card company. I suspect the confusion may have something to do with the hotel being called the Lodge or the Olive at different times. The owners were as unhelpful as they could be. The rooms had other problems too: uncomfortable beds, a shower with the weakest flow and most inconsistent temperature I've ever had the misfortune to use, and random holes punched in the walls of more than one room. We chose the location only because our event was nearby. As far as I can tell, it's the only hotel in Barnby Dun. The saying goes that in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, but calling this hotel one-eyed, with even one working eye, is a stretch. Avoid it if you possibly can.

The room was clean and had what we needed for one night, though it could use a lick of paint. We only had one very flat pillow each, so a few more would have been welcome. Breakfast isn't available, so be aware of that. The location was lovely, with nice views from our room above the pub. Even though it's right by the road, it was quiet enough to sleep with the window open all night. Our experience with the staff lowered the rating a bit. We only went into the pub to check in, where a young man seemed annoyed to deal with us, despite the bar being quiet and empty. When we asked a female staff member about a local taxi company, she just told us to “google it”. We'd probably book again because it's cheap and almost cheerful, and has the basics for a night. But we wouldn't stay longer.

We had a quiet night, but the room was very basic and not worth what we paid. The photos looked nothing like the real thing. There was no internet, no toiletries or even hand soap, and just one towel for two people in a double room. The two pillows were very thin, with no spares. The walls were marked and the paint chipped all over, and the door banged whenever the next room shut theirs. Glad we only stayed one night and didn't pay more.

They'd apparently lost my room key when I arrived, so a staff member had to escort me in and out using master keys. Then someone showed up at 9:30pm to change the locks. The bath water was stone cold. The handbasin only ran cold as well, both evenings and both mornings, and there was no hot water at any point during my stay. They refused to compensate me.

The room was a decent size, and the shower was good. There was tea, coffee, and decaf, which isn't always provided, though I would've liked more than one teabag. We were in the main building rather than the separate part, so we heard music until 11pm. In room 2, the bed furthest from the window sank in the middle and was very uncomfortable for me because I have a bad back and need support. There was no hand soap in the bathroom, just a bottle you had to tip, so too much came out each time. We only had one towel and didn't realise until it was too late, so we had to share.
