Beggar's Knap

We only gave Mark a few hours' notice, and he still found room for us. The bedrooms are spacious and very clean, with towels and toiletries supplied. He also pointed us toward the Thai restaurant across the road for dinner. A really excellent host, and we'll be back.

Breakfast was a treat, with cereals, fruit, yoghurt, tea and fresh coffee, all served on gilt-edged crockery with silver service. My room had an antique four-poster, a couch and two chairs, plus a modern bathroom. Even on a busy corner, I barely heard the traffic through the good double glazing. The house is packed with antiques and memorabilia, each with its own story. Mark, a professional musician, is relaxed, friendly and easy to talk to. It’s great value, full of character, and I’d recommend it for either a short break or a longer stay. I love this place.

The host was very friendly, and my room was nicely presented with a really comfortable bed. The en suite was spotless and had complimentary shower toiletries. I skipped breakfast, though I did look into the breakfast room, where there was an eclectic collection of figurines and bric-a-brac I’d have enjoyed exploring with more time. I’d gladly stay here again if I’m in Dorchester.

The room looked pleasant, and the location was great. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful host. Breakfast is optional. The room itself was dusty, with cobwebs on the ceiling and radiators, and there was a mouldy smell by the entrance.
