The Norman Guest House

The service was awful. They ignored my calls, and emails only got answered the next day, yet by 10:05 they were threatening a late checkout charge. The room was tiny and the bed uncomfortable. Avoid this place.

The location is very convenient, right across from Dover train station, in the town centre and close to the ferry terminal. Bikes and motorcycles can get there easily too. Check-in was simple, and the place was easy to access. Everything was clean and tidy, the staff were friendly, and we had a lovely stay. We’ll definitely return.

The owner gave me a lovely goodbye, and I felt I’d got a good deal. My room was cleaned while I was out sightseeing, with fresh towels and the tea and coffee topped up as requested. The room was beautifully presented and close to the station, with strong, free Wi-Fi. Online check-in was easy, and most things were walkable. There were more useful extras than I expected: a shared kitchenette with a washer and dryer, microwave, stove, personal lockers, iron and board, and cooking utensils. A very pleasant stay.

I can’t recommend this hotel. The room was so small we had to keep the window open for enough air, but the busy road and loud music from the pub opposite carried on late, so sleep was out of the question. The bed was much too soft and too small for two, and it gave me back pain. There was only one duvet, and the owner wanted £25 for an extra one. There wasn’t drinking water at the bathroom sink, so we had to get it from the kitchen. I’ve never come across that before. I didn’t want to stay, but the owner wouldn’t refund our three nights, so we stayed. I’m giving one point because the owner replied quickly to all my emails and questions.
