Travelodge Dover

We booked again for the return journey after an overnight stop before the ferry. The staff were really good, and the rooms were clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was unlimited for £10.85, though the mushrooms had run out. The coffee was good, but I’d give breakfast 7/10. The Cumberland sausage could be better, with coarser ground pork and black pepper, but I suppose the price is a factor.

The location was just what we wanted, and the receptionist was friendly and knew her stuff. But after driving 300 miles, we were shattered, and the room was a letdown. The carpet edges were frayed, the kettle was full of limescale, and somebody's nail clippings were left on the ledge above the headboard. There was only one pillow each on the bed. When we opened the bag of two spare pillows, they smelled of sweaty, greasy hair, as though someone had used them and put them back without getting them cleaned. I felt dirty all night, which was the last thing I needed before driving another 300+ miles down to the south of France the next day. We only noticed these things as we were going to bed, tired from the trip. Breakfast was okay but nothing special. The scrambled eggs were warm and a little watery, and the fresh fruit salad was almost gone, despite only three other guests eating at 6am. I can only assume it hadn't been freshly made and was being reused. All in all, it wasn't a pleasant stay. We raised these problems when checking out at 6:30 the next morning, and were told we may hear back from the manager. Would I stay again? Sorry, no. The staff were really friendly and the accommodation is budget priced, but we still expect it to be clean. That's my opinion based on this experience.

The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, and we slept really well. The location was great, close to the harbour, and the young woman who checked us in was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, too. The woman serving it was local and gave us great tips on what to do and where to park. The Travelodge staff were a credit to the place. Great value, and we’d definitely stay again. We were there last night, Saturday 22nd November.

If you’ve got an early ferry, this is a great spot, just across the road from the harbour front. There are plenty of places nearby to eat and unwind. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff made us feel very welcome. Just make sure you’ve sorted the parking correctly with the hotel.
