We spent most of our time outdoors because the weather was fantastic. The cottage on the edge of Dumfries was gorgeous, with all the amenities we needed and welcome packs for us and the dogs. It was a lovely break, made even more special by staying in such a beautiful home.

Even in winter there are lots of places to explore around Dumfries, the county seat. The cottage is secluded enough for a quiet break, yet only about five minutes from the city. Inside, it’s warmly decorated and cosy in winter. With the French doors open, we could enjoy the lovely surroundings from the warmth indoors. In summer, sitting outside with a cup of tea and taking in nature would be something special.

The open fire makes the comfortable, cosy cottage a lovely place to stay. Woodend is everything you could ask for, with plenty of walks nearby and a good base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. Dawn was welcoming and helpful whenever we had questions.

Look out from the living room and it’s countryside and cows, even though the busy town of Dumfries and all its amenities are close by. The cottage is absolutely stunning and cosy, really the best of both worlds. A short drive takes you to a beach walk or into the middle of the forest. There’s nothing more you could want, and Dawn is an amazing host. x
