Caledonia Hotel

The restaurant looked beautifully decorated, and the staff made us feel welcome with their friendly, helpful service. We had a lovely Christmas lunch at An Doca restaurant yesterday. The food was very good and the portions generous. I’d happily recommend a visit.

The bar gets lively at weekends, and the rooms are modern and spacious. Staff are very friendly. The train station is five minutes away if you want to head further afield, including to edinburgh. Highly recommended 👍

We needed somewhere to stay at short notice, and the room did the job: decent space, a comfortable bed and a nice big TV. There were no bulbs in the lamps when we arrived, so we had to ask for some. The restaurant was nice too. The Caledonian burger was really good, and breakfast was standard. The bathroom let the room down. It was a good size, but the toilet made a strange noise for a long time after flushing and the door wouldn’t close. A brown liquid on the sink turned out to be leaking from the hot tap handle, and the cold tap kept dripping unless we turned it off with a very firm grip. The shower had strong pressure, too strong for the flimsy curtain, and water partly flooded the floor. The shower curtain rail and towel rail were rusty. It needs a little money spent on it. I couldn’t tell whether the place had just changed hands or was being upgraded. It served its purpose, and if the improvements continue, I think it’ll be a good place to stay.

The food portions were generous, and we really enjoyed the burgers and chicken skewers. We tried both the chicken and cauliflower pakora starters, and they were fantastic. We’re regulars at the Caledonia bar, but tonight was our first family meal at An Doca restaurant, and it was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was nicely set up with good views, the service was excellent, and there was a big, varied menu. A wee gem ✨️
