The staff were friendly and really helpful, but that was the one bright spot for me. The room needs a major overhaul: cracked walls, bare plaster and a very worn carpet. The bar had hardly any choice, with the draught beer and cider unavailable and only two lagers. The bar and restaurant menus were both limited, and at breakfast I was surprised to be told there was no bacon. It also doesn't match the description on the website. Roadworks currently make the place a bit hard to find. I personally wouldn't recommend it.

I had a lovely September stay when the rate was £35, and I would have been happy to pay £45. I called to book a night in October and was quoted £85, apparently because management has changed. It's a nice hotel, but I don't think it's worth that price.

The setting is fantastic, right below the old Forth Rail Bridge at the old ferry slip. Since the recent upgrade, the friendly staff have made this my favourite stopover on the way to Edinburgh. It feels like a wee home from home. Love it, Eddie Middleton (Chillchaser).

Before booking, people should know about the accusations that Kevin Mark Penman, behind the Pickle & Custard cafe and The Priory Bar & Kitchen, hasn't paid staff. The reviewer says the waitress serving breakfast may be working without pay and being used. They say many people are still waiting for wages they earned, and accuse him of closing companies he has run for a short time before company tax is due. In their account, people have been left in financial trouble while he walks away without consequences. The reviewer calls him a disgrace and also accuses his partners, Lyndsey Croy and Susan Bowman, of being involved. They describe Lyndsey as short with dark hair and Susan as having long grey hair, and say they belong in prison. They ask readers to imagine how they would feel if their own children worked hard and got nothing. Their warning is to stay away, especially anyone looking for work.

We really enjoyed our recent stay, and the staff were amazing for the price. The evening atmosphere was relaxed, and breakfast was excellent. Thank you.
