Room 3 was spotless, the view was superb, and the bathroom was clean and warm. We had a fab weekend at the Prince of Wales and would love to return to Bath and stay there again. We were in town for two nights to visit the Christmas Market. Gary and Kingsley were warm, friendly hosts, and the bus stop right outside made the trip into Bath easy, at £3 each way. Breakfast was great, and we enjoyed a delicious pub meal on our first night. We were also lucky to be there for the second anniversary of their ownership. They kindly gave us tickets to the private party, which was fantastic and raised much-needed funds for a local hospice.

The Sunday roast is the standout, and the food overall is great. Nice atmosphere too, and good value for money.

The Sunday special roast was half a roast chicken with the usual sides, for £8.95. It was a fair meal at a fair price, but nothing I’d rave about. The chicken was cooked, though its pale, soft skin made it look a bit unappetising. The potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were Aunt Bessie style, and the veg was a little overdone but still tasty. Service was friendly, if slow and not especially professional. I’d come back for a pint, but not for the food.

Bella was thoroughly spoiled here, and it was nice that the place welcomes dogs. We enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come back. The room was very clean, with plenty of tea and coffee, and the ensuite was new and sparkling. Garry was extremely helpful, and breakfast was enough food for the whole day. It’s an old traditional pub with some interesting features.

The beds are comfortable and the food is good, so as a place to sleep and eat, it works well. But although this pub allows dogs, it doesn’t really make much room for them. It’s about five miles from Bath and close to plenty of local walks, so it could be ideal for a visit with a pup. The trouble is there’s nowhere to settle in and relax with your dog. Outside there’s only a small deck, while indoors you’re limited to a cramped pub area or your room. The furniture seems set up for dominoes and bar snacks, with no real spot to sit back and enjoy the surroundings. A bit of DIY, some new furniture, and a fresh coat of paint could make this five-star.
