Old Hunters Lodge

Our family Christmas get-together at Old Hunters Lodge has become a happy tradition, and somehow the dinner gets better each year. The food and drinks are top notch, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. It’s a beautiful venue inside and out, in a stunning spot, with a relaxed atmosphere. Five stars, plus one!

We got there at 3:15, just after they’d stopped serving food at 3:00. They checked with the kitchen and managed to fit us in because everything hadn’t been switched off yet. That was fantastic service, especially since other pubs nearby had the same food hours. The food was amazing too. My chicken and bacon sandwich was really filling, and my GF loved the fish finger sandwich. I’d definitely go back.

We went to the Hunter's Lodge with friends tonight hoping to have a Christmas meal, but were told those meals had to be pre-ordered. We were disappointed, especially as the website didn’t mention that option, and they wouldn’t let us order from the Christmas menu when we asked. One friend couldn’t find a dessert he liked and asked for Christmas pudding instead, but they said no to that too. You’d think they’d have some, since it keeps for a long time. The owner wasn’t accommodating, and after visiting several times before, we won’t be going back. I’d suggest checking ahead so you don’t end up as disappointed as we were.

The homemade beef pie was especially good, and the rest of the food was lovely too. It’s a family-run pub and hotel where the owners and staff made us feel very welcome. A handy base for the zoo, walks and exploring the area.
