The Saddle Inn

The room had a stale smell, and the broken window handles meant we couldn't open it to air the place out. The shower was mouldy, as shown in the photos, and the bed was very uncomfortable and unkempt, with creased linen. The room itself was very dated, with no lamps or bedside table on the left. We were given room 1, overlooking the car park, after the manager couldn't find the key to our allocated room. It was noisy until 12.50, when the staff and customers left. We were told we could contact someone for help only until midnight, and that there'd be no staff on site until 11am the next day. We were also asked to leave our key outside the room so the cleaner would know we'd gone and could make it up.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was cheaper than most nearby. I stayed here while working locally. The secure parking out back is handy, though getting in is pretty tight. The shared bathroom was the only downside, but it was fine for one night. They also make a really good shandy.

I can't say what the pub is like, since we only rented a room for one night. It was quite dated, but not bad for such a short stay. The shared shower was a letdown: it was really hard to get it set, with water that switched between freezing and hot and kept changing pressure.

The kitchen was closed, so we had to eat elsewhere. The place is a little way from the city centre, but the bus service was great and getting around wasn't a problem. A good place to stay.
