If you just need a comfortable budget bed in this area and you’re driving elsewhere, it’ll do. The rooms have been remodelled and are decent, with good mirrors and lighting for getting ready and a comfortable Premier Inn-style bed. The bathroom was okay but older. The hotel is on a main road, pretty much in the middle of nowhere, with little public transport nearby. There’s no lift, so you’ll have to carry bags up the steps, and the hallways and shared areas look very dated. The vending machine is small and overpriced, £3 for a lukewarm 500ml bottle of water, so bring what you need. The Beefeater next door serves cheapish, terrible food. There was a fan for the heat, and I’m pretty sure there’s no air conditioning. My window looked out onto a wall.

Check-in was quick and easy, thanks to Ella, who was friendly and efficient and made it feel effortless. The Premier Inn is easy to find, in a good location with plenty of amenities nearby. I had a really pleasant stay and would happily come back.

Sinead at reception was especially warm, friendly and accommodating, and really helped make my stay a wonderful experience. I felt welcome as soon as I arrived, and the service stayed excellent throughout. I’d happily return.

Good-sized room, a great bed and shower, and it was clean. The staff were friendly and the service was great. The location is decent, but it’s literally in the middle of nowhere, with no mobile service at all. The Wi-Fi was pretty bad unless you paid £5 for the upgrade. The only issue in the room was how loud the air conditioning was.

The breakfast at Horse and Jockey was fabulous. My husband said it was the best black pudding he’s ever had. The unlimited option lets you choose cooked or continental food, with cereal, toast, fruit, pancakes and toppings, plus a coffee machine and a range of teas. They even have takeaway cups and breakfast for the road. Staff got us seated and took our cooked breakfast order quickly. The pub and restaurant was quiet in the evening, then steadily busy in the morning. The hotel was easy to find, with free parking, an easy check-in and a lovely clean room with a simple thermostat. It’s only seven minutes from Whipsnade Zoo, so a great place to stay if you’re visiting.
