The room’s window opened at least 30 centimetres, which I believe clearly breaches Health and Safety laws stating it should open a maximum of 4 centimetres above ground level. The ripped and torn curtains were visible too. An intoxicated, irresponsible person could easily fall out and suffer irreparable injury or worse. Other hazards included a detached electric powerpoint, a shower with no water at all, and a television that didn’t work. I contacted them about the TV, but nobody came. The hotel was extremely badly run, with an appalling attitude from the manager and owners. My worst experience was dealing with them through an impersonal intercom about these problems and standard questions. A fellow guest I didn’t know and I were both shocked by their response. They acted aggressively and arrogantly, intimidated us, then locked us out. Outside, they separately told each of us that the other had been “evicted,” with aggressive, boastful bravado. This is how disruptive delinquent children might behave, not hotel managers in a provincial conservative seaside town. It’s unfathomable to do this to paying guests who’ve caused no harm or damage. It’s especially alarming that they seem willing to do it to lone women late in the evening. They criticised me for the rate I paid, although customers have no control over prices once they voluntarily enter a contract. They seemed discriminatory too, saying, “you have white hair, you should know better.” When I pointed out that not everyone in the country’s aging population has a smartphone, they called my question silly mid-conversation. I can’t understand how anyone could consider this service worthy of accreditation or recommendation.

I couldn’t sleep because I was freezing. The only heating was a small plug-in heater, and the blanket in the wardrobe smelled strongly of cheap perfume. The windows were filthy, so you couldn’t see through them on a sunny day, and the building has seen better days. It felt like a Fawlty Tower experience, completely soulless. The room had broken windows, a shower door that wouldn’t close and left water everywhere when I stepped out, missing door handles, and bathroom fittings that kept falling off. My colleague had no working plugs in her room and kept having to go to the fuse box to turn the switch back on. Otherwise, the location was good.

Parking was a welcome surprise: we paid just £2.35 for the night, and it was secure and easy, which added a lot of value. The room was exceptionally clean and well kept, and the comfortable, supportive bed gave us both a great night’s sleep after a long day travelling. Between those things, we were very satisfied and would consider coming back. It was a comfortable, affordable stay, and I’d recommend it to others. Everything felt spotless and fresh, which gave us peace of mind. That low parking cost also meant one less hassle compared with places where parking is pricey or hard to find.

The location was fantastic, though the road was pretty noisy, and we got a nice welcome at reception. The room had what you needed but really needed a clean, especially the window, which was so dirty you could barely see the sea. The balcony window wouldn’t lock, leaving the room accessible from outside by anyone on the first floor, and reception didn’t care. The room next door was smoking. I thought we were absolutely overcharged. I was travelling alone with luggage and couldn’t leave my bags early or after the 10:00 early checkout, so I couldn’t go for a swim in the sea.

We took the deluxe option, but got a dirty, small room. The only thing that matched the pictures was the location. Service was through a doorbell, with no please or thank you, and I was disappointed. The room was cold as hell, and they hadn’t even switched on the electric heater before we arrived. We had to stay because we arrived late, but I’ll never go back.
