The staff were friendly and helpful from the pre-check-in messages through to checkout. My husband and I were in Scotland for our honeymoon, and though we hadn’t asked for anything special, the room had been decorated with petals and chocolates. That was a lovely surprise. The hotel is in a quieter part of town, handy for the bus station and tram. If you use Edinburgh bus station, it’s right opposite the bus arrival area, and there’s a tram stop nearby too. We’d definitely recommend it if you want comfort and peace away from the crowds and late-night noise in the older part of town. One thing to improve: please keep the radiators on. They were turned off for summer, but the weather was very cold when we checked in, in late spring or early summer. We were grateful they brought us a portable radiator.

Alice made the planning easy, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. I celebrated my 21st birthday here, and the space was amazing. Everything went smoothly on the night. I’d happily recommend it.

The only drawback was that nobody was at the desk after 6 pm. There was a way to reach someone for help, but having a person available for questions when we came back in the evening before dinner would have been useful. Otherwise, I loved staying at 28 York Place. The historic building made it feel like I was really in Scotland, and my room was beautiful and spotless. They left fruit, water, and snacks, which felt like a treat. The location was great too, within walking distance of so much and just a block from the Rabbie's Tours pick-up point.

There’s no lift, so keep that in mind, but the top-floor views are lovely. From the back, you can see the sea when the weather’s clear. It’s also handy for the city centre, Portrait Gallery, and The Stand comedy club. A contemporary hotel inside a historic building.

The staff were lovely and very helpful, and we liked the wide staircase even though there’s no lift. Our clean, quiet bedroom was a nice place to spend two nights. Waverley train station is about a 12-minute walk away. Definitely recommend.
