Destiny Scotland - Distillers House

Distillers house was much bigger and nicer than we'd expected, and it blew us away. We travel pretty selectively, but loved the clean, stylish place, the modern appliances and bathroom, the comfy bed and the big living room. Check-in and checkout were easy, and communication was excellent. The location was great, a little away from the tourist traps, so we ended up eating with locals and were glad we did.

The apartment’s little conveniences made the stay especially easy: we could leave our bags in a locked downstairs room while waiting for it to be ready, and the team called when we could collect them early. The keypad entry also meant no key to carry around. Nearby are Gregg's, a Tesco Express, restaurants and sights including St. Mary's Cathedral. My brother and I chose Destiny Scotland (Distiller's House) because it’s around the corner from the Jolly Botanist, where Scotland's Wild Tours picked us up. We wanted somewhere central and easy to reach, and it worked perfectly. The team was quick, kind and thoughtful in helping us arrange everything on short notice. Our apartment was huge, clean and comfortable, with high ceilings, enormous windows and lovely views. The bathroom had a luxurious waterfall shower, and the beds were comfortable, including the king bed and pull-out couch. There’s also a full kitchen, a washer-dryer, an office with a desk and chair, a roomy closet, an iron, a TV we didn’t use, and a mounted safe. It felt big enough for a small family. We’d definitely stay again. Thanks for making such a comfortable place to rest during our travels!

The mattress was the one letdown, since it wasn’t comfortable. Everything else made for a lovely stay. The place is stunning and in a perfect spot, and we really liked having a washer-dryer and an iron. The oven also has a microwave setting. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were provided, and they were good quality and smelled great.

The main drawback is the access: there’s no lift, and those spiral stairs make hauling heavy, bulky bags a real challenge. Some help with luggage would make a difference. Travelling light is fine, but I’d avoid this place with heavy suitcases. Otherwise, the location is convenient, about a four-minute walk from Haymarket station. It’s on the main road and well connected to the city’s main attraction, Princes st. The rooms look as they do in the pictures.
