The breakfast was good, with continental options and a hot cooked meal brought out fresh. My room, number 10, was clean, and so were the towels, bedding, and en-suite. The only issue in the room was that its single curtain didn't cover the whole window. I stayed after cycling the coast route from Newcastle, and the place covered my basic needs. The staff I met were polite and friendly. Two staff members seemed inexperienced: my friend asked for beans on toast and tea, but got beans and poached egg on toast without the tea. She repeated her order when sending it back, and a third person had to confirm it. These mix-ups happen, so it wasn't a big deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I reported these problems in March, but by the time I left last week nothing had been fixed. The owner even laughed in front of a lawyer. In my family room, tiles had been covered with duct tape, the sink was cracked, the hot water tap was loose, and there was a large ceiling crack. The light switch was stuck up with duct tape on what felt like cardboard, and the stair banister wobbled. This place didn't feel family friendly or safe. Avoid it if you can.

We'd stay here again, and I'd recommend it as an affordable hotel. The room was clean and had what we needed, and the staff were friendly. We left while housekeeping was in and I realized later that I'd forgotten my phone, wallet, cash, and cards. When we went back, everything was still in place and untouched, which felt very reassuring. The beds were softer than we're used to, so we found them uncomfortable, though that's down to personal preference. Breakfast wasn't anything special, but we left full.

The rooms are roomy enough, and breakfast is good, though they stop serving it at 9 am. The toilet and shower area is a bit cramped. They only gave us one room key, which is awkward if you want to go your separate ways.

Everything was falling apart, from the chair to the cracked sink, and the shower had been patched with duct tape. The smell was awful too. I can't imagine living in conditions like these. This place should not be allowed to operate.
