Leith House

For a night or two, it was decent value compared with most places. Service and location were good, though Edinburgh's public transport makes many areas convenient. The room was a bit rough around the edges, and the bed was pretty uncomfortable. You get what you pay for.

It took about three hours for the freezing room to finally warm up, and the service was lousy. Apart from the location, I can't see a reason to stay there.

We only lasted one night before getting out to another hotel. The room was small, the double bed was narrow and uncomfortable, like a concrete slab with a topper, and the floorboards shifted underfoot. A shower room took up about a third of the space, and there was an unpleasant smell. Outside the front door sat an ashtray that hadn't been emptied. There was no reception, just a bell to ring and, in their words, an instruction to wait patiently while they dealt with you. I was handed a key that apparently fits all the rooms.

The location at Leith House made getting around easy, with a tram line at the top of the road, frequent buses, and the city centre a short walk away. There are plenty of nearby activities and attractions, and parking was conveniently available on the next street. Check-in was straightforward, and the staff were exceptionally welcoming. Our room was clean, tidy and well maintained, with what we needed for a comfortable short stay. A great choice for a visit to the area, highly recommended.
