The location is ideal for walking to Arthur's Seat, with lovely parks and restaurants nearby and a good view across Edinburgh. Breakfast is huge and seems to have something for everyone. The hostel itself is good, but the rooms need attention: the heater doesn't work properly, the water boiler is broken, and the window doesn't shut properly, so cold air keeps coming in. The carpets are dirty and the bathroom is very old.

At Grant House, the room gets unbearably hot in summer, and the windows only open partway. The next-door building's A/c unit is right beside it and makes a constant racket, like sleeping next to a very old fridge. Cleaning happens only once every 5 days, with no cleaning supplies such as a brush or mop available, so the shared bathrooms and kitchen get very dirty. They should at least leave a mop to clear shower water after other guests and some disinfectant. I just hope I didn't pick up fungus from the shower. The building doors are always open, and it seems anyone can come and go. Laundry was a problem too: the app wouldn't let me register under my name, the laundry card dispenser didn't work, and reception's suggestion to call the helpline was no use because the number didn't work.

The location is fine, right by Arthur's Seat with plenty of nearby restaurants, but the rooms are noisy and don't have much sound insulation between the hallway and the room. Even students or other lodgers coming back drunk at 2am can wake you, without being especially loud or rude. It's student lodging during the year, so the quality isn't great. The listing pin is wrong: the place is at Pollock Halls Chancellor’s Court, in the small reception building just north of the St Leonard Hall "manor building". It's right by the campus car entrance with the barrier and guard.

The booking listings for “Summer Stays” at The University of Edinburgh are confusing and need updating, though only Google Maps business owners can make some of those edits. A useful thing to know before arrival: check-in is at the RECEPTION CENTRE, but booking sites leave that detail out. The University of Edinburgh “Summer Stays” has two kinds of accommodation. Chancellors Court has en-suite rooms and is rated 3 star. The Residences are campus accommodation with shared bathrooms, rated 2 star. They include Turner House, Grant House, Lee House, Baird House, John Burnett House and Ewing House. Pollock Halls is the name used for the campus as a whole.

I had such a lovely stay, and the place around it is stunning and picturesque. The rooms were clean, breakfast had plenty of options, and the location was wonderful. Many thanks to the staff. I also enjoyed the chance to be around students and teaching staff.
