The breakfast was overpriced, and the cooked food was cold both mornings. We had to ask for tea bags and condiments because they were gone, and the cramped dining area made it hard to get seated. On our second morning the fire alarm went off. Staff first told us to leave, then someone we couldn't identify shouted at people to go to the evacuation point. The staff member with the pole was only just leaving the building, and nobody had been given safety information at check-in, so it wasn't clear where to go. I also saw that same staff member argue with a family whose child had a clear disability. It was appalling behaviour. At checkout, I left the key card down and wasn't acknowledged or shown basic courtesy. We won't be back. This was our first and last time at Travelodge. We stayed two nights in a so-called superior double, which didn't feel superior. We chose it because parking was advertised and it was within walking distance of the playhouse. The car park cost extra and wasn't large enough for hotel guests, though luckily we found a space. We paid for early check-in from noon, arrived at 12:30, and still couldn't get into the room until after 1. Our third-floor window looked onto scaffolding, with workers able to see into the room. The room was very basic, and we'd found cheaper, better accommodation elsewhere in the area. The old shower curtain didn't reach the bottom, so water got on the floor.

After we'd checked out and were already on our way back to London, we realized we'd left a very important office laptop at the hotel. We were flying back to India in just two days, so it was stressful. We called around 12:20 PM, and Debbie and the Edinburgh Central team quickly found the laptop, packed it carefully, and arranged Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed shipment by about 12:40 PM, before its critical cutoff. It arrived safely, and their speed, professionalism, and real willingness to help turned what could have been a major disaster into a problem that was fully resolved. I'm very grateful to Debbie and everyone at Edinburgh Central for their kindness and urgency. That kind of customer service deserves recognition, and it's rare. Highly recommended.

We had a really enjoyable three-night stay. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, and breakfast was great. We only booked on the day after our Air BnB plans fell through. The front desk called a taxi for our airport trip really quickly. Highly recommend.

Our room was spacious, with one double and two single beds, and it came with plenty of tea and coffee plus Kit Kats in the cups. The bathroom was roomy too, and the beds were comfortable. We were friends staying for two nights, and the hotel made a handy base in central Edinburgh, within walking distance of the train station, landmarks, and restaurants. Reception staff were attentive and friendly, and asked us each evening how our day had been. We used the luggage store across the road twice, at 4 pounds for the day, which was affordable and saved us carrying our bags around. The main room bin bag had a very dirty bottom, with what looked like a fringe of hair in it. Beds aren't made daily, which was actually nice to come back to, and we could get clean towels when needed; bins were emptied each day. Breakfast was an extra 11.99, so we ate locally. We enjoyed our stay. 😀

We were well placed for the castle and the tours we wanted to do, all within a ten-minute walk. There's a shop just across the road, open until 11pm, which was handy for late snacks and a drink to take back. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and kept topped up, and the staff were attentive, checking whether empty plates could be cleared. Reception, bar, and buffet staff were all great. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean, apart from some black grime in a shower corner and a couple of long hairs on the bathroom wall. Those would have been easy to clean, so it seemed the cleaner missed them. The radiator repeatedly makes a slight hissing sound as it switches on to maintain the chosen temperature. It was the same in my mother's room. I need silence to fall asleep, though it probably wouldn't bother most people. I'd stay again, and plan to return to do some things we missed this time.
