The location was excellent, but we were very dissatisfied with the rental. We believe we were overcharged and taken advantage of. The listing called it a two-bedroom apartment, which led us to expect two bedrooms and a shared living area. Instead, there was one bedroom and a common room with a Murphy bed. The space was uncomfortable and far too small for three or four adults, barely suitable even for a couple. My wife and I are in our mid-70s, and we were travelling with our 45-year-old son. We travel a lot and have never had a situation like this. The Murphy bed took up half the common space, leaving no room for a table and chairs. There was just a loveseat and one other chair, with no tables. With nowhere to sit and eat, the stove and oven were of little use, especially with only one pot. Putting appliances in a bedroom doesn’t make it a kitchen. There were no paper towels or toiletries, and we had to buy toilet paper on the third day. The common-room closet had no hanger rod or hangers, and no door handles. We had to live out of our suitcases, which took up even more floor space. For what we paid, this was neither comfortable nor affordable. Future renters should know what to expect. Beware.

We had five adults in the apartment, so it was a little cramped but manageable. The rooms were nicely furnished and the bathroom was lovely. There wasn’t a tea towel in the kitchen, a small annoyance. The building is 250 years old, so expect uneven floors and no lift. The location is hard to beat. We were there at Christmas, with a little market down the street and the Polar Bar and ice skating up the street. Lots of attractions are an easy walk away, and there are plenty of bus routes.

The staff were so helpful, and the rooms were clean and well equipped. We got upgraded on our first five-night stay, which was wonderful. Excellent location.

The location was excellent, but my daughter and her friends stayed one night and cash went missing from their room. They were told only the guests in that room had the door code, so I believe whoever took it must work for the organisation. Reception was no help. They even asked why the headphones hadn’t been taken, probably because AirPods can be traced. The receptionist seemed reluctant to offer real support, so I suspect she may have been involved in the break-in too. I’ve tried calling, but nobody answers. I asked for someone to call me back and am still waiting. Please avoid!

The walk to the Royal Mile was pleasant, about 15 minutes, and the location was prime. Our ground-floor room was quiet enough, with little noise from outside, and the bed was comfortable. We stayed a few nights and it did the job. My one gripe is the air conditioning. I was sure it was advertised when I booked, but the room didn’t have it. Maybe I read the listing wrong.
