University of Exeter Pennsylvania Court

We’ve used university accommodation for Devon holidays in summer, when the students are away, and have stayed at five universities: Brighton, Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Bournemouth and now Exeter. Standards and prices varied, from £19-£32 a night, and Exeter was the priciest at £55. The grounds here are green and pleasant, with a tennis court, and everything was clean, well equipped and maintained. Lopes Hall, the main reception building, is a nice old place dating from the 1870s, I think. There are some disabled accessible rooms, and fans can be borrowed. The en-suite bedrooms each had a small fridge, but the nearly empty shared kitchen had no cooking facilities, only a sink, microwave, iron and ironing board, kettles, one table and one chair, recycling bins and a mop bucket. No fridge freezer or even a microwave bowl, maybe in case things get stolen. One receptionist was very rude to us, but the rest of the staff were lovely and helpful, and they made a satisfactory effort to make up for that behaviour. Of the places we’ve tried, Phoenix Halls of residence at Brighton Uni was best. Its well equipped kitchen had utensils and fridge freezers, and a communal TV and seating area for every eight rooms. It was rarely busy when we visited in peak season in July, good value, and close to the popular beach, pier, attractions and amenities, though it depends where you want to be. :-D
