Melford House

Breakfast was tasty, and the bar had a good range of fresh local beers. The room was nicely furnished, and the owners were friendly and keen to make sure we had a great stay. The whole house looked lovely and was spotless inside and out. I'd definitely come back.

The bar, “The Goat in a garden,” is tucked behind the hotel, with a clear stream and little fish nearby. We spent our free time there, and you can order tasty meals from the hotel menu too. We stayed in the African-themed ground-floor room. It was fresh and exceptionally clean, with an en-suite and a super-comfortable bed. The rich, warm colours, pictures, chandelier, curtains, bedding, and even the bathroom details all carried the theme beautifully. This lovely Victorian house is away from the town centre, surrounded by tall trees, roses, and other plants. It felt like a relaxing break from the fast pace of life. We loved having morning coffee and freshly prepared breakfast on the terrace. Willem and Ches, thank you so much for your hospitality. We’re definitely coming back.

The host is a really nice guy, and he makes a lovely breakfast to order in the morning. I slept very well in the comfortable bed, and the shower had excellent water pressure. Everything felt new. It was a much better-value experience than a hotel. If you want to experience living the “English way,” don't hesitate.

The bar had four quality ales, and I enjoyed chatting with the owner, who knew a lot about plenty of topics, many of them right up my street. The rooms were spotless, well stocked, and great, and the owners have made the place very welcoming. There's a small but nicely laid-out outdoor space with BBQ facilities for warmer weather. I really enjoyed the weekend and may book again, perhaps for the racing at Ascot.
