The Griffin Inn

A cabbage this delicious deserves five stars on its own. Huge credit to the chef and team for such a tasty meal out. It was a real treat.

The food was outstanding, especially the perfectly cooked steak and the soft shell crab curry. We went on a sunny Friday evening and the huge, well-kept pub and stunning beer garden were busy with people enjoying themselves. That seemed to leave the staff stretched: our main courses took 90 minutes to arrive, and the apology was brief, with no real acknowledgement of how late they were. We couldn't face waiting for dessert too. When we paid, a drink missing from the bill was added, but the server didn't thank us or say goodbye. A couple more staff might have made the service quicker and friendlier. It's a lovely, very dog-friendly place and we'd return, though we'd avoid the busy times.

We had turkey and beef for the Sunday roast, followed by crumble, and it was all lovely. The food was fabulous and the service stayed very good despite the place being full. There's a good range of wines, cocktails and alcohol-free drinks, plus plenty of beers and lagers.

We celebrated a surprise 70th birthday at The Griffin this past weekend, and the staff made us feel so welcome and looked after us all afternoon. Both the food and service were top-notch. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a special day for us.
