Good value for a central little hotel. The beds were lovely and comfortable, the staff great, and breakfast set us up nicely for long hikes. Shops, restaurants and bars are close by. It’s a quaint place, and what you see is what you get.

The hotel was a little tired, but it was clean and warm. I was invited to stay and enjoyed the visit. Everyone on staff was friendly, and breakfast was excellent.

The evening meal was a letdown: cold soup, vegetables that were barely cooked with the main, and desserts I couldn’t eat. Breakfast had a good choice. I stayed four nights as part of a coach tour, and found the staff, especially in the dining room, strangely indifferent. I won’t stay there again.

The team made this a stay I’ll remember for years. The Cullen Skink, lamb shank and scampi were all beautifully prepared, and the waitresses, waiters, chefs and housekeeping staff treated us with real kindness. I’ve stayed in hotels around the world, and this place was five stars all the way. A huge thank you to everyone for such a wonderful visit.

TripAdvisor reviews seemed harsh after my stay. The telly wouldn’t work properly and the bath drained slowly, but the staff were friendly and the food was brilliant. The place is dated and clearly well used, but the rooms were clean and warm, and the bathrooms had plenty of supplies. Glass, mirrors, surfaces, carpets and towels were all clean. It’s no Hilton, but it was better kept than some chain hotels around here. Would I come back? I think I would.
