Gairloch Hotel

The receptionists were very good, and the building looks grand, with a good position overlooking the loch. Still, the hotel feels tired. Maybe being the only place to stay explains why it’s like this. The bar staff were miserable and sometimes rude. There was no hot water in our room at any time. We got a £40 refund, but that doesn’t make it acceptable. The bed was uncomfortable, which might explain the mattresses delivered to reception that morning. The dinner wasn’t worth trying, so we ate out at a fantastic Creole restaurant in town. I’d keep driving and find a different hotel.

This was our second visit, and we had another good stay overall. The location is good and the food was okay, although some advertised items were missing. Our window wouldn’t shut. We complained three times, but nobody fixed it. Luckily the weather was warm, though the traffic noise in the morning was an issue. We’ll come back again.

The restaurant food was good, and the staff were friendly. The rooms may be a little dated, but there’s an ultra-modern lift. We had a nice stay, with great views across the loch.

The view over the water from the third floor was breathtaking, and the location is outstanding. Free parking was a nice extra, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The room needed a little maintenance, and I’d skip the breakfast buffet, but the view made up for it.
