Hilton London Gatwick Airport

We enjoyed Amy’s bar, a pleasant, light and airy space with nice drinks and food that was good enough. It was great to see a respectful nod to that wonderful aviation pioneer. The room was fab, checkout couldn’t be easier, and it’s only a few minutes’ flat walk to the south terminal. Check-in was a great experience too, though I was surprised there was a £50 damage deposit. No worries as long as we get it back. The price for the airport was very reasonable, and we had a very pleasant stay. I definitely expect to do it again. Thanks y’all 😊

The breakfast buffet was lovely, just what I needed before my flight since I didn’t want anything too heavy. I fell asleep quickly in the super comfortable bed. The room was delightful, with a fairly big TV, though the selection of shows was limited. There was body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and some lovely-smelling lotion for anyone who’d rather not use their own. Staff were friendly and helpful. Finding the hotel was easy, and check-in and checkout were both straightforward.

Everything seemed fine when we arrived, but after dinner we came back late and found the bed filthy. There was a previous customer’s fake eyelash extension in it. I reported it to reception and was told someone would come straight up. At 10.30pm, after waiting 30 minutes, I called down again. They said it would only be a couple more minutes, but we waited over 50 minutes for someone to change the bed. I’d already stripped it and showered, ready to sleep. This was totally unacceptable. My partner has multiple sclerosis and was having symptoms at the time. She needed to go to bed before it could potentially become life-threatening, but we were left waiting nearly an hour. The duvet cover was also stained with someone else’s blood, which was disgusting. Covers should be checked regularly. There need to be standards in place, and I don’t think they were followed here. Someone who is immune compromised shouldn’t have to worry while staying at the Hilton. Online, Hilton is described as an upscale premium brand rather than a budget hotel, but the cleanliness didn’t show that. I tried to resolve it in-house before writing this review. The manager’s first response was to offer a complimentary room upgrade if we paid to stay again. I said that wasn’t sufficient and was quite offensive. Then they offered a 20% refund for the first night, although we stayed more than one night. That wasn’t enough either: we’d paid over £100 just to get to the hotel, and the offer was a minor £30 refund. After I pursued the complaint through the booking provider, they eventually offered to refund one night. I’ve also taken this up with booking.com and my bank. I would not recommend this hotel, and I would not risk my health staying here again.

The location is super convenient for Gatwick travellers, just a short walk into the terminal. The rooms were clean and well equipped, with comfortable beds and working AC and heating. They were very quiet, too. The staff were friendly, and the facilities were great. Just what I’d expect from the Hilton.
