Premier Inn Godalming

The pub and food were OK, reception was fine and all the staff were good. It’s nicely sited with a good sized car park. The one drawback for us was that there are no lifts to the rooms. In our room, the toilet pan sat in a recess in the bathroom, which would be awkward for anyone on the large side. A small hand rail in the bath would help older people, though I know Premier Inn doesn’t have that as policy. Still, everything else was good for our stay.

The portions on the lunchtime set menu were very small. The food was edible, but left no lasting impression that we’d want to eat from that menu again. It was all very disappointing. Our server was friendly and doing his best, but there weren’t enough staff on shift, and the service fell well short of reasonable expectations. Even with a table booked, we waited 10 minutes at the host stand before seeing anyone. Then there were waits to order and be served, and we had to wait to tell them one of the kids’ meals was burnt.

The place is showing its age in spots, but there’s plenty of parking and the staff are friendly. My room was clean, the bed comfy and the shower OK. The food is generally good for a budget hotel. The full English breakfast was really good, with as much as you like ordered at the table and brought over, and eggs cooked to order.

I haven’t stayed at the hotel, but I’ve visited the restaurant many times and always had great service. I’ve tried several steaks as well as dishes from the children’s and vegetarian menus, and they’ve all been very good. The lunch menu is especially good value. Strong recommend!
